Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, commenting on the launch of the Government’s Disability Living Allowance consultation, said:
“We want to work with the government to reform Disability Living Allowance and introduce a new gateway as set out in the Budget.
"But when it was announced that mobility support for people in care homes was to be scrapped it owed less to Iain Duncan Smith's ambitions than George Osborne's welfare cuts agenda. It is a punitive measure that could leave people in residential accommodation more isolated.
“Iain Duncan Smith needs to explain why he intends to leave 30,000 disabled people living in residential care £2,500 a year worse off.”
