Labour is backing a cross party amendment to the tuition fees motion which calls for a delay in decision until the Government has consulted more widely and has published its higher education white paper.

John Denham MP, Labour's Business Secretary, said:

“It is clear that the coalition proposals for the highest public university fees in the world have not gained public support. As the proposals are rushed through without the consequences thought out, we are calling on MPs from across the political spectrum to support the amendment.  If the amendment falls we hope that MPs from all parties will join us in blocking the legislation.”
