In response to BBC reports that the Government are reconciled to British-based banks paying out billions in bonuses Labour's Shadow Chancellor, Alan Johnson, said:

"Another week, another broken promise from this Government. For all the warm words, all the meetings, all the posturing in the coalition agreement, they've achieved precisely nothing.

In the week that families have seen a VAT rise and petrol prices reaching record highs they'll rightly ask what exactly George Osborne means when he says we're all in this together."
