Sadiq Khan MP, Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the Tory-led Government's delay on the set up of a commission on a British Bill of Rights, said:

“David Cameron said that a commission on a possible British Bill of Rights would be set up ‘imminently’. That was over three weeks ago and we’ve yet to see any details.

“Ken Clarke said almost three weeks ago that the commission will be established by him and Nick Clegg ‘in the next week or two’. It seems no one in government is taking a lead on this policy.

“It is very worrying if internal splits within the government have led to them dragging their feet on an issue of this constitutional importance.

“If the government can’t even agree on the commission, what hope is there for agreement on policy?”
