Gordon Marsden MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Minister for English Regional and Local Economies, commenting on the CLG announcement about its new LEPs network, said:

"Questions are now inevitably being asked about the process by which this network has been set up, with no Parliamentary announcement or any opportunity for the decision to go out for consultation or to tender.

"Eric Pickles’ announcement that this LEP network is to be run via his CLG Department is yet another example of how Vince Cable and BIS Ministers have lost control of the enterprise and business agenda. Meanwhile individual LEPs still won’t have any start-up funding or access to assets or planning powers to give them the tools to do the job."
