Mary Creagh, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to today’s Urgent Question in the House of Commons on the Government’s refusal to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, said:

“Defra Ministers are using a non-existent Austrian court case as political cover for their failure to ban wild animals in circuses. They misled Parliament and have failed to apologise for misleading the British public who want this ban.

“Today’s performance in Parliament from the hapless Jim Paice just confirms what the forests fiasco showed – that Ministers are out of touch and Defra is out of control.”
