Mary Creagh MP, Labour's Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to comments by the Ramblers Association that Government cuts to jobs at the Forestry Commission are undermining the work of the independent forest panel said:

“It is ironic that in the same week the chair of the independent panel suggested expanding the public forests the Forestry Commission have announced plans to cut 240 jobs and shut local offices, as a result of Tory cuts. Despite the u-turn on forests, we are seeing the public forest estate run down with fewer frontline staff and less money to care for trees and wildlife.”
