Nia Griffith MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Minister, commenting on the news that Which? has been successful in its super-complaint to the Office of Fair Trading on card surcharges, said:
"The Tory-led Government should waste no time in implementing today’s recommendation by the OFT to ban surcharges on payments by debit cards and to require upfront transparency on any fees for using credit cards. Thanks to Which? and the OFT, this is a real victory for the consumer.
"It is also a clear message to the Government that whatever changes it proposes to consumer protections bodies, it should ensure that there is the capacity to carry out precisely this type of investigation – or consumers will soon find themselves ripped off by new tricks."
