John Healey MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary
, marking the 63rd anniversary of the NHS today, said:

"Today marks 63 years since the NHS was founded. The achievements of the NHS since then are a testament to everyone who works in and with it and I would like to thank NHS staff, past and present, for their dedication, skill and professionalism.

"Labour will always be proud of the NHS - the greatest example of our values in action. But its future is now at risk as money promised for patients is wasted on a reckless top-down reorganisation. With people starting to see the NHS go backwards again under the Tories, Labour will fight to make sure our health service has many more happy birthdays, and is something we can all celebrate and cherish for years to come."
