Labour has called on the Tory-led Government to give greater clarification on the guarantees it will put in place for Southern Cross residents, following the transfer of control of its residential care homes.
Emily Thornberry MP, Labour’s Shadow Care Services Minister, who has written to Paul Burstow seeking Government clarification on the situation with Southern Cross, said:
“It’s all very well for the chair of Southern Cross to say a deal has been agreed to ensure continuity of care, but it remains unclear that Ministers actually know who all the relevant landlords are. To avoid any further confusion the Government should publish a full list of these landlords, and at the same time highlight which of the 250 Southern Cross homes will be taken over immediately.
“The Government also needs to confirm how any plans put forward by landlords will be stress-tested for financial viability and how it will guarantee that all homes are run to a sufficiently high standard.”
