Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary,
speaking ahead of an expected announcement on Tuesday of a badger cull said:

“Bovine Tb is a terrible disease which last year alone cost the taxpayer £87 million in testing and compensation to farmers. The Government’s badger cull, however, is driven by cash not science.

"Leading scientists in this field agree that a cull will make little or no difference.  Free shooting has not been scientifically tested anywhere and could even spread bovine Tb in the short term as badgers move around more.”
