Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary,
commenting on reports of Syrian security forces attacking the city of Hama, said:

"These desperate attacks coming at the start of the holy month of Ramadan should be condemned across the world. This dramatic escalation in violence must be met by a significant increase in pressure from the international community. Britain must use its place on the UN Security Council, its membership of the EU and its strong relations with Syria's Turkish neighbours to press for a strong and coherent international response."
