Meg Hillier MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy Secretary, responding to the announced rise in energy prices by E.ON, said:
“Yet another price rise means that most UK customers will see their energy bills increase in the next month.
“The Tory-led Government is sitting back and doing nothing while prices goes up and food costs increase. Combined with pay freezes and job losses, people have nowhere to find the extra money when the costs of basic heating and hot water go up so much in one go.
“It’s time the biggest six energy companies were referred to the Competition Commission. Most people don’t understand their energy bills and trust in the companies is at an all time low. An external inquiry is needed.”
