John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, commenting on the Royal College of Midwives' warning of a 'dangerously high' shortage of midwives, said:

“This research shows how David Cameron's broken promise of 3,000 extra midwives is beginning to impact on patient care, but as Labour revealed earlier this week cuts to the funding of university midwifery courses is set to make things even more difficult with a likely reduction in the number of midwives in years to come.
“With the Prime Minister continuing to waste millions on his reorganisation of the NHS bureaucracy, it is becoming clear that you can’t trust the Tories with the NHS.”
