Meg Hillier MP, Labour's Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, responding to Chris Huhne's comments today on consumers and the rising cost of fuel bills, said:
"Chris Huhne's comments show how out of touch this Tory-led Government is with families who are being squeezed by the rising cost of fuel.
"Just this week we have seen the last of the big six energy companies raise its prices. The energy market is an example of an unaccountable concentration of power and this Tory-led Government is still not offering a proper solution to tackle their rising costs.
"Ed Miliband has made it clear that we need to see more competition and more transparency. Ensuring the market is free and fair is vital if we are to bring bills down.
"These outrageous comments show this Tory-led Government's reluctance to take proper action on the rising cost of fuel and stick-up for hard-hit families."
