Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the announcement of Charlie Taylor’s behaviour checklist, said:
“Good behaviour and discipline are crucial to the quality of learning, tackling the scourge of bullying and ensuring high levels of trust by parents and the community in schools. We welcome the guidance published today by Charlie Taylor. It draws on best practice from schools across the country and builds on the excellent work of Sir Alan Steer.
“However, the Tory-led Government’s reckless cuts will make it harder for schools. The National Audit Office reports that two thirds of schools are preparing to cut staff over the next two years. Whilst the Government’s education programme focuses on some schools, the challenges of the majority of schools are being overlooked. This Government’s out of touch focus on cuts is undermining all efforts to address behaviour and discipline in our classrooms.”
