Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary, following comments made by newly appointed Chair of the NHS Commissioning Board Professor Malcolm Grant to the House of Commons Health Committee, said:

"How much longer can the government carry on with its discredited Health Bill, when even its own choice to run the NHS tells them on his first day that the Bill is “completely unintelligible”?

"By digging in, the Health Secretary is causing great damage to the NHS and it is time for them to listen and admit defeat.

"The Prime Minister must take responsibility for his reckless NHS reforms. It can’t be allowed to go on any longer. Cameron must put the NHS first and drop his Health Bill."
