Maria Eagle MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, speaking at today's rally of Parliament opposing the Government’s plans for reform of the rail industry, said:

“The Tory-led Government’s plans to hike rail fares, close ticket offices and sack frontline staff from our trains and stations is totally out of touch with passengers. Rail users are already facing eye watering increases in ticket prices and replacing staff with machines will make it even harder to get the best deal.

“Instead of resurrecting out of date policies from the past, the right way to reform our rail system and bring down the cost to taxpayers is to tackle the fragmented structure of the industry, which is the legacy of the disastrous Tory privatisation.”
