A report produced by six of the country’s top fire chiefs covering all metropolitan areas outside London outlining the potentially dire consequences of further cuts has been dismissed by Government Ministers. The report warns that further cuts will endanger lives and impair the nation’s ability to respond to major incidents involving terrorism and flooding.
Chris Williamson MP, Labour's Shadow Communities and Local Government Minister, said:
“The Tory-led Government is in denial about the impact of its cuts to fire and rescue services. The Government’s cavalier attitude towards the resilience of our country is totally unacceptable. Funding for the Fire and Rescue Service should be based on risk and need. This is yet another example of Tory ministers being totally out of touch.”
