Jon Trickett MP, Labour's Shadow Cabinet Office Minister, has said that reports today of Carina Trimingham's offer to a lobbying company to use her political contacts underlines the need for a register of lobbyists.
Jon Trickett said:
"These revelations raise serious questions. In opposition, David Cameron said that lobbying was 'the next big scandal waiting to happen' yet in government the Tories are dragging their heels in publishing their report into the industry.
"This underlines the urgent need for the register of lobbyists and proper regulation of the industry that Labour has called for. The longer the Government delay, the more people will be wondering what they’ve got to hide.
"The Tories always have time for their friends in the lobbying industry. But they are increasingly out of touch with the needs of businesses which need a plan for growth, young people who need a plan for jobs and the economy which desperately needs a change of course."
