Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, Labour's Shadow Local Government Minister, speaking ahead of the publication of the Communities and Local Government Select Committee's Report on the draft National Planning Policy Framework, said:

"This is a strong condemnation of the Government’s draft National Planning Policy Framework by the Select Committee, and a vindication of all the campaigners who have fought so hard.

"It reflects what many of us have been saying - there will now have to be significant changes to come up with a proper definition of sustainable development, to keep offices in the sequential town centre test, and to restore the brownfield first approach so that our green fields and spaces can be protected from the wrong development.

"Ministers must also give councils sufficient time to draw up their new plans."
