John Woodcock MP, Labour's Shadow Transport Minister, commenting on news that tens of thousands of UK hauliers will be faced with increased costs under the Government’s proposed HGV road charging scheme, said:

"The Government promised that only foreign lorry drivers would pay more under their heavy goods charging scheme, but today they admit that more than 28,000 UK-based truckers will be saddled with increased costs.

"We need a level playing field so British lorry drivers can compete fairly with their foreign competitors – out-of-touch Ministers need to explain why they are breaking the promise they made to thousands of British hauliers."
