Yvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary, responding to Theresa May's comments today ahead of the Olympics, said:
"The Home Secretary's decision to weaken counter terror protection is taking risks with security and putting extra pressure on the police in Olympic year.
"The Home Secretary should tell us how many terror suspects she and the courts had previously banned from the capital have now returned.
"Previously she and the courts had concluded some individuals were so dangerous they had to be kept out of London to prevent terrorist acts, but now they are allowing them back.
“These weaker counter terror powers are costing the taxpayer millions of pounds in extra police surveillance at a time when the police already face serious pressure from budget cuts and Olympic demands.”
