Kevan Jones MP, Shadow Minister for Armed Forces, responding to news that the MoD are planning to privatise Army recruitment, said:
"This is hard to believe. The Armed Forces will view this with dismay. The Tory-led Government is privatising recruitment, which breaks a vital and traditional link between regiments and the Army with its recruits.
"Soldiers will find it amazing if Ministers are allowing a private company to profit from this when the Government is cutting frontline allowances and making mass redundancies.
"We should be told what criteria was used to select Capita and how much any contract will cost over the contractual period.
"Recruitment is important, but it should be driven by the Services and their needs."
