Cathy Jamieson MP, Labour's Shadow Economic Secretary to the Treasury, said in response to remarks this afternoon by Lord Lawson on the economy in the House of Lords:
"These comments betray the sheer complacency and lack of urgency from the Tory-led government in tackling Britain's jobs and growth crisis.
"Telling the 1.4 million people who have been out of work for more than six months to have a little patience shows just how out of touch the Tories are. And the 1 million plus young people now out of work can't afford to wait on the dole for years on end, as they see their life chances scarred.
"People are understandably getting impatient as George Osborne's economic mistakes are causing unemployment to rise month after month. We need urgent action now to get people back to work with Labour's five point plan for jobs."
