On Tuesday 6th March, the Care and Support Alliance will be organising a mass lobby of Parliament. Over 1000 campaigners from charities and organisations that work with older and disabled people are expected to attend.

Liz Kendall MP, Shadow Minister for Care and Older People, who will be meeting campaigners at the lobby said:

"How we fund care and support for older and disabled people is one of biggest challenges we face as a country.

"There is a growing care crisis in England and the system has now reached breaking point.

"£1 billion has been cut from local council budgets for older people’s social care since the Conservative-led Government came to power. Fewer older people are getting the help they need and families face soaring care charges, which vary hugely across the country.

"This lobby comes at a crucial time. Labour called for cross party talks on the recommendations of Andrew Dilnot's Commission on Funding Care and Support and these talks are now underway.

"Achieving cross party consensus will not be easy, but Labour is determined to play our part in ensuring a better, fairer system of funding for the future.

"Doing nothing is not an option, and neither is delay.

"Labour is calling for legislation during this Parliament. We must act now to reform services and support, and ensure a fair and sustainable funding system that delivers dignity, independence and peace of mind for older and disabled people and their families."
