Rob Flello MP, Labour’s Shadow Youth Justice Minister, commenting on the announcement that the Youth Justice Board is to have its funding cut by a further 10 per cent, said:
“Once again we see the true face of this Tory-led Government. Despite their warm words about tackling youth crime this Government has been caught bang to rights as a serial offender when it comes to letting down people in the youth justice system. Let’s not forget this Government not only tried to abolish the Youth Justice Board in the face of fierce opposition, but they’re now imposing a further 10 per cent cut to their budget – meaning it has been slashed 22% since 2010.
"Also, we now hear that the Minister confessed during a Select Committee hearing that he wasn't fully briefed on his departmental responsibilities. You really couldn’t make up a better farce than this ministerial team.”
