Catherine McKinnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Young Families, responding to a report from Ofsted on children in care said:
"Children are taken into care for a whole variety of reasons, however it is shocking that any child could feel that their life has been made worse as a result. This report shows we need to do far more to listen to the views of young people in care, and ensure the system serves their best interests.
"While more needs to be done to improve the adoption process, it is not the only form of placement and support available. The Government must broaden its focus to include all young people so that on leaving care they are able to live happy, fulfilled and well-adjusted lives.
"We owe an enormous duty of care to these vulnerable young people where the state has taken on the role of parent. They must get the extra support they need to equip them for adult life.
