Shabana Mahmood MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Higher Education, responding to the 2012 Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, said:
“Whilst it is a sign of our strength that the UK is one of only four countries represented in the top twenty universities in the world, the Government should sit up and take note of the relative decline of UK institutions compared to those in Europe, the Far East and Australia.
“This is symptomatic of the chaos and confusion being created by the Government as a result of their rapid changes to higher education. Trebling tuition fees and cutting funding to universities has damaged the promise of Britain and this has been reflected around the world. This survey shows that Ministers’ changes have damaged the world leading reputation that we secured and built upon when Labour was in Government.”
