Gareth Thomas MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Civil Society, responding to reports that the Government has scaled back its  'Giving Summit', said:

"No wonder David Cameron isn't turning up to his own charity summit - his Government has made such a mess of charity policy that what should have been a flagship event has turned into an embarrassment. Charities are warning that George Osborne's 'charity tax' could cost them hundreds of millions of pounds, at the very time that they are seeing their funding cut while being told by the Government to attract more donations.

"Once again it is clear that there is a gap between David Cameron's Big Society rhetoric and the reality of his Government's policies."
