Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on reports today about water leaks, said:

“The public are rightly concerned about rising water bills and hosepipe bans yet the Government have failed to act on leaks. OFWAT sets leakage reduction rates, but beyond that leaks are only fixed when the cost of lost water outweighs the cost of repair. That’s not good for consumers or the environment.

“David Cameron has failed to deliver on much-needed water reform, meaning we all pay more for our water and the hosepipe ban, while water continues to leak. He should get a grip and set tougher leakage targets to protect our water supplies and help us meet the challenge of climate change.”
