Jon Trickett MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, responding to the lack of any measures in the Queen’s Speech to regulate lobbying, said:
“Before the General Election David Cameron said that lobbying was ‘the next big scandal waiting to happen’. He’s been proved right, with his Government at the centre of it: with scandals around ‘cash for access’; Adam Werrity and Liam Fox; and revelations of contact between his Government and News International.
“Despite all this there is still no sign of a statutory register of lobbyists in the Queen's Speech – even though this was promised in the Coalition Agreement.
“The Government need to get serious about lobbying transparency. If we are to give an assurance to a sceptical public that politics is serious about cleaning up its act then we need action now.”
