Harriet Harman MP, Labour's Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, responding to the latest evidence released by the Leveson enquiry, said:
"The latest evidence published by the Leveson enquiry confirms what we already knew. Jeremy Hunt did not act in a quasi-judicial way; he misled Parliament and breached the Ministerial Code.
"The memo that Jeremy Hunt sent to David Cameron - despite having been warned by his department to keep out of the Murdoch bid - shows Cameron should never have given the decision to Hunt in the first place. Hunt was not judging the bid he was backing it.
"Jeremy Hunt did not seek independent advice at every stage because he did not do the most important thing which was to refer the bid to the Competition Commission.
"All the latest text messages and emails published show that all the key figures in the Government were backing the Murdochs."
