Clive Efford MP, Labour's Shadow Sports Minister, said in response to BBC Panorama’s investigation into racism at football stadiums in Poland and Ukraine:
"Racism in any form is unacceptable and should not be allowed to damage Euro 2012.
"Families of England players are so fearful of racial abuse they have decided not to travel to Ukraine. UEFA must make it clear that it has a zero tolerance approach to racism. It should issue strict instructions to referees to remove teams from the pitch if players are being targeted with racist chants.
"Football has a major role in promoting tolerance throughout the world. The governing bodies cannot look the other way if some of the players and their families are racially abused during one of the sport’s major tournaments."
