Cathy Jamieson MP, Labour’s Shadow Economic Secretary to the Treasury, in response to recent HMRC changes to the landfill tax rules, said:
"The chaotic implementation of a so called ‘skip tax’ is further evidence of shambolic policy making from this Government. We’ve had three u-turns this week and are in a double dip recession created in Downing Street.
“With the construction industry already on its knees because of decisions taken by this Government, shrinking by almost 5% in the first quarter of 2012, this overnight tax hike, without any consultation, is putting jobs, businesses and livelihoods in the waste industry under threat.
“If the Government doesn’t take urgent action skips will be left uncollected and fly-tipping will escalate. The Government need to urgently get a grip.”
