Ivan Lewis MP, Labour's Shadow International Development Secretary, responding to the pledge made by Andrew Mitchell MP on The Andrew Marr Show to spend 0.7% of the UK's GNI on aid and would be 'enshrined in law', said:

"If Andrew Mitchell wishes to honour his pledge to legislate for the 0.7 per cent target, he should work on a cross-party basis to support Mark Hendrick MP's Private Members Bill, which will enable all of Britain's major political parties to deliver their manifesto commitment to enshrine 0.7 per cent of GNI in law. There is now no reason for any further delay."
