Responding to the consultation launch, Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, Jon Trickett MP, said:
“With a double-dip recession made in Downing Street, unemployment unacceptably high, a growing banking crisis and a series of very public rebellions within their Party, the Tories are clearly desperate to divert public attention away from such self-made failures by sounding an ideological rallying cry.
The Tory-led Government’s ideologically driven approach has rendered them out of touch with reality on this issue. Effective staff engagement and wider union representation in the workplace is good for business in both the public and private sectors but the Government has failed to acknowledge this.
There is a very real danger that the Government’s proposed changes will cost the taxpayer significantly more in the long term.”
