Rachel Reeves MP, Labour’s shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, responding to the head of the OECD’s comments this morning, said:

“It would be very unwise of George Osborne to take false comfort in the assurances of the head of the OECD. His loyal support for the Government today is the exact opposite of what his deputy has been saying for over a year and what the IMF said last week.  

“This complacent government needs to wake up to the fact that Britain is now in a deep and deepening recession and that their plan has failed. How much worse do things have to get before David Cameron and George Osborne finally change course and take the urgent action to boost jobs and growth we need to stop even more damage being done?”
