Tessa Jowell MP, Labour's Shadow Olympics Minister, commenting on the Government's decision to continue funding for elite sport up to Rio 2016, said:
"Continuing the funding for elite sport will allow us to continue the momentum that has been built during these Games.
"It's important we put the same energy into keeping the Olympic promise that we made to inspire a generation of young people through sport.
"Let's build on the Olympic spirit to come together in the best interests of our children and produce a ten year national plan for school sport.
"We need to get everyone working together to get this right - the country will never forgive us if we let this opportunity slip through our fingers."
