Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, Labour's Shadow Planning Minister, responding to reports showing planning approvals for new homes fell 32 per cent in the second quarter of this year, said:

"These figures are a clear indication that the Government’s planning reforms have caused confusion and delays in the system, which makes their announcement last week of yet more changes even more bewildering.

"The fact is the planning system is not to blame for the housing crisis or the double-dip recession, it’s David Cameron and George Osborne's failed economic policies.

"The Tory-led Government urgently needs to change course on the economy rather than injecting yet further instability and inefficiency into the planning system."
