Jamie Reed MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, in response to figures obtained by the Health Service Journal showing 74% of redundancies from Government NHS re-organisation were women, said:
"As the Government’s re-organisation inflicts chaos on the NHS, its women employees are being hit hardest. Thousands of NHS jobs are being thoughtlessly axed across the country and this out of touch Government is letting women bear the brunt of it.
"The Government has delivered a double dip recession and the biggest squeeze on living standards for generations, unemployment amongst women has rocketed to over one million and they are the most affected by redundancies across the public sector.
"Jeremy Hunt has been silent since his appointment a week ago. He needs to urgently get to grips with the chaos in the NHS, starting with the impact of heavy staff losses."
