Lisa Nandy MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Young Families, commenting on Action for Children’s Red Book 2012, said:
"This report shows that the Tory-led Government’s decisions and the double dip recession has left two in three vulnerable families facing more severe problems than a year ago.
"There is a real risk to some of the most vulnerable families and children with already-stretched services being forced to focus on crisis intervention rather than more cost effective preventative measures.
"To build a One Nation Britain, we need early intervention to help families who are struggling. It is clear that the Government is not delivering on its commitment to early intervention and must be more strategic.
"If the Government is serious about supporting children and families through these difficult times, it must make the right long term decisions."
