Tom Greatrex MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy Minister, said in response to reports from Brussels that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been blocked by the Chancellor said:
"Ed Davey must come clean on CCS funding. Either the £1 billion he claims to be putting up is available or it isn’t.
"Britain is at the cutting edge of innovation in carbon capture and storage, but to realise its commercial potential and get support from the EU NER 300 programme investors need certainty on funding not more government infighting.
"Despite Lib Dem commitments in Parliament that there would be no Treasury backsliding on funding, that appears to be exactly what is happening yet again.
"Vague platitudes from ministers are not good enough for investors and industry, and missing out on match funding from Europe would be a hammer blow to potential CCS projects in the UK. It is time for the Government to end this dither and delay."<div>
