Dan Jarvis MP, Labour's Shadow Culture Minister, has responded to Ed Vaizey’s letters on 23 October 2012 regarding the independent review of e-book lending. He said:
"Ed Vaizey’s letter was typically evasive and failed to answer key questions that I had posed.
"The Labour Party welcomes this review because it is urgently needed in order to articulate a vision for e-book lending. It is imperative that the over-arching goal of this review is to provide answers to questions for a national e-book lending service and its infrastructure.
"I want assurances that the Government has a clear plan for how any future recommendations could be managed and implemented. Disappointingly, the department has failed to answer this key question.
"The issue of e-book lending needs more than government window-dressing; it requires a long term strategy which is clearly lacking."
