Vernon Coaker MP, Labour’s Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, speaking in a House of Commons debate on security in Northern Ireland, said:
"Dissident republican terrorism and criminal behaviour by loyalist paramilitaries is a threat to the peace and progress in Northern Ireland that rarely makes the news in London. But it is happening and we in Westminster have a responsibility to take notice of it and act to stop it.
"The Government must assure people in Northern Ireland that those protecting the public - the police, the army technical officers and the security services - have all the resources needed to tackle terrorism.
"There can be no complacency about the threat from the small number of people engaged in violence. There must be total support from all of us in Westminster to help the security forces to keep people safe in Northern Ireland."<div>
