Mary Creagh MP, Labour's shadow environment secretary, commenting on the severe flooding affecting various parts of the country, said:
"Everyone's thoughts tonight will be with those hit by this latest severe flooding. I want to salute the fantastic work of all the emergency services and of local people helping one another.
"What matters now is that communities get the support they need swiftly. People in communities hit by this summer's floods are still waiting for the help that David Cameron promised them in June. Homeowners without insurance have received no help and councils are facing multi-million pound clear up costs for damage to roads and schools which are not covered by the government's Bellwin scheme. Those affected over the last few days will rightly want action not words."
