Lisa Nandy MP, Labour’s Shadow Children and Young People’s Minister, responding to the report of HM Chief Inspector of Probation on children in care, said:
"This report highlights the shocking, collective failure to keep some of the most vulnerable children safe from harm.
"The inspectors reveal how vulnerable children are more likely to enter the criminal justice system early, because of the failure to provide them with adequate support and protection, and not appreciate their emotional needs.
“The aspirations that the system has for these young people is too low, and they are often placed away from their home communities for no good reason. This is unacceptable – information sharing and cross-agency working needs to improve.
"Ministers must look carefully at the report's findings and make clear how they will ensure that, in future, the most vulnerable children are not so badly failed by the system."
