Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Care and Older People, responding to a report from disability charities claiming there is a funding gap in social care support, said:
“This devastating report is absolutely right to say people too often think about the crisis in social care as affecting older people alone, when in reality it deeply affects the lives and life chances of thousands of disabled people and their families too.
“Disabled people know that our care system is on the verge of breakdown. Fewer people are getting the care they need and more disabled people are being charged more for vital help, including services that help them stay living independently in their own homes.
“The Government is in complete denial about the terrible impact its huge cuts to local council budgets are having on care and support for disabled people. This immediate care crisis must be the Government’s top priority, as well as putting in place the longer term reforms we need to provide a decent care system in future.”
