Stephen Twigg MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the publication of the Education Select Committee’s Report ‘Careers Guidance For Young People’, said:
"This report is a damning indictment of David Cameron’s failure to provide young people with the advice they need to get on in life. On this Government’s watch we have seen over 8 in 10 schools cut the careers advice they provide.
"The deterioration of the quality and quantity of advice and guidance could be hugely damaging not just to individual young people but to long term economic growth. Young people need guidance so they make the right career and qualification choices. The Committee is right that young people deserve far better support when it comes to careers advice.
"We need a step change in approach, with high quality face to face careers advice and schools held accountable to parents for the advice they provide."
