Mary Creagh MP, Labour's Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee report on the draft Water Bill said:

“The Government have cut funding for flood defence schemes and failed to tackle rising water bills. The report highlights the lack of government action on protecting our water resources, dealing with flood risk or helping households feeling the squeeze.

“It is astonishing that the Government still have not put in place the advanced computing system to predict severe weather events as recommended in the Pitt review. Instead they are pursuing an ideologically driven shake-up of the water industry that could mean higher bills, and serious environmental damage.”
